Director's Update February 21, 2017

A few things….

It's been a busy, busy week at UAS.  Forgive me, but I have a few items of note that I need to share!

KHDA Inspection

As you may have heard the KHDA Dubai School Inspection Bureau annual visit will be from March 6 through March 9.  The school has been preparing for this visit all year, but as expected our focus will be in final preparations for the visit in…

Week Without Walls—The Parental Experience

This week, like many of you, I dropped my child off for her week without walls trip. It was a bit of a humbling experience I must admit.

I’ve been an educator for 30 years, and have had my children take part in a wide variety of overnight and weeklong camp experiences over the years.

I have participated in outdoor and camping experiences …

Dispatch from America…. January 2017

We live in interesting times.

The quote “May you live in interesting times” has been thrown out as a dismissive curse on many an occasion throughout history.  The quote, which was falsely assigned as a Chinese curse, assigns to the receiver hopes of bad luck and difficulty.  My nation, unfortunately, is in such turmoil …

Director's Update January 23, 2017

1670… an auspicious number!

In my email client on my computer, I have a folder titled “employment”.  All applicants for teaching positions at UAS have their emails routed to this location where I can work to organize and respond to applicants.  Since I arrived at UAS in 2014 that folder has accrued 1670 email messages as of today. It increases in size every day …

What do you think?

As you well know UAS surveys the parents, students and teachers annually with an internal survey run through the school's data systems.  Most recently though, I was reminded to share the all-new KHDA School of Hearts and Minds survey which is now open. This year KHDA and UAS are doing things a little differently. The KHDA has combined all of our surveys – including …

International Day 2016-17:

Date Changed to March 15

Our number one priority at the school is to provide a healthy classroom instructional program.  One of the factors that play into this process is the demands from the local education authority and our testing requirements.  Because of these requirements the administration and the school must remain ready to make changes …

Resolutions VS. Priorities

I want to be clear.

I don’t like New Year’s Resolutions.

They bother me.

Why?

I, like just about everybody else on the planet have set these goals and have miserably failed to see them through to fruition, let alone the end of February.  For instance, I have decided this year to stop drinking so much coffee.  I currently only …

Director's Update December 13, 2016

Last week we had a very fruitful and productive visit from Dr. Russell Quaglia. His time was spent with students and teachers working on the implementation of the Aspirations framework at UAS.  One of the biggest things going at UAS is the fact that we are seeing so much more student action in our school this year. Examples include student councils at all three divisions doing some good …

………
………

If you can't fly then run, if you can't run then walk, if you can't walk then crawl, but whatever you do you have to keep moving forward.

– Martin Luther King Jr.

Last week I wrote about the large amount of celebrations and gratitude I felt after coming out of one of the most challenging and busy months in UAS history.  Looking back though, I really did have a …

UAS- So Much to be Thankful

November and December are the time of year when people from my part world start to gush and ooze about traveling to grandma’s house or giving thanks to all the great gifts bestowed upon us.

Today’s blog post is no different for me.

I am so thankful, so full of gratitude and so humbled by the bounty of what is the UAS community.

In the past …
