KG2- Grade 5
Learning in KG2-Grade 5 is divided into a series of six ‘Units of Inquiry’ which are taught through varying transdisciplinary themes that help teachers and students to explore and acquire essential knowledge and skills to take socially responsible action. The PYP sets out six themes to offer continuity and progression of learning. All grade levels study one Unit of Inquiry under each theme.
The six themes are:
- Who we are
- Where we are in place and time
- How we express ourselves
- How the world works
- How we organize ourselves
- Sharing the planet.
Inquiry is the primary pedagogical approach of the PYP. Inquiry learning means students are actively involved in their own learning and take responsibility for that learning.
The US Common Core standards in Language Arts and Mathematics are woven throughout all of the Units of Inquiry and ensure the consistency and continuity of the programs. The homeroom programs are complemented by specialist teachers which provide a holistic learning experience for students. Specialist subjects include: Music, Art, PE, Arabic, and Islamic Studies for our Muslim students.
