Grades 9-10

In Grades 9-10 students at UAS take a core set of courses. These include:

  • Language A (English)
  • Language B (Foreign Language)
  • Arabic/Arabic as a Foreign Language (AFL)
  • Mathematics
  • Social Studies
  • Science
  • The Arts (Drama, Music, Visual Arts, Choir, Band)

  • Physical Education

Muslim students also take Islamic Education as part of their core subjects.

This well-balanced course core aims to lay a firm foundation in many subjects in order to prepare students for success in the higher levels of schooling, particularly in the IB Diploma program. As students progress through their years at UAS, they are given more choice of and exposure to different subjects. This will provide them the depth of knowledge they will need for the DP program.

Grades 11-12

The IB Diploma (IBDP) & IB Diploma Courses (IBDC) are two-year programmes for students aged 16-19. Recognized internationally as a qualification for university entrance, they also allow students to fulfil the requirements of their national education system.  Students share an educational experience that emphasizes critical thinking as well as intercultural understanding and respect for others in the global community.

The IBDP & IBDC offer a broad and balanced curriculum in which students are encouraged to apply what they learn in the classroom to real world issues and problems. Wherever possible, subjects are taught from an international perspective.

At the heart of the Diploma Programme Model is the learner, characterized by a profile of attributes that it is expected students will develop, surrounded by the 3 core requirements that they need to complete: Extended Essay, Theory of Knowledge and CAS (creativity, action and service). Students also study six courses selected from six subject groups.
